Jan Stephanie Burton, Director of Admissions for Grades Five through Twelve at Trinity from 2001 until 2021, passed away on 11 March 2026.
Born in Washington, D.C. in 1955, Jan received her bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in 1977 and her master’s degree from New York University. She spent much of her professional life working in admissions, first at Phillips Academy Andover in Massachusetts and subsequently at Trinity. After retiring from Trinity in 2021, she returned to the D.C. area to care for her mother.
Jan was actively engaged in civic life, working on Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign in 1992 and regularly attending the Democratic National Convention. She is remembered by her many friends, family, and colleagues for her collaborative spirit, her dedication to students and the Trinity community, and her kindness, consideration, and calm, thoughtful presence.
Jan is survived by her mother, Celeste Burton, and her extended family.
